South Africa Weather Warning: Disruptive Rain And Winds Expected In THESE Areas

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has pronounced an alert for showers and strong winds in several regions across the country on this Saturday, 9 August 2025. There may be instances of disruption, particularly along the coast; therefore, residents are advised to keep themselves alerted and plan accordingly.

Western Cape: Windy, Misty Mornings Turning Rainy

There will be foggy and mist-laden mornings this weekend for the western and southern Western Cape areas. During the day, partly cloudy skies will persist as temperatures remain cool to cold. Along the coast, moderate to fresh west to northwest winds are expected, invading strong gusts along the southwest coast. The rain will vary from scattered showers in some places to more or less widespread in others.

Eastern Cape: Warm, Foggy Mornings and a Shift in Winds

The weather will be characterized by some foggy conditions in the mornings (especially in southern regions) whilst staying warm through the day in the Eastern Cape. Winds will change direction at the coast- from light northerlies through to moderately strong northerlies in the morning, turning onto stronger south-westerlies by late afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal: Warm Day Ahead, Rain Comes on Sunday

The Saturday in KwaZulu-Natal will be warm and partly cloudy, with temperatures being most pleasant over the northern interiors. Then a cold front moving up from the south will spell rain over the southern coastal belts of the province on Sunday, mostly towards the Eastern Cape border.

What You Should Know

  • In the Western Cape, expect cold and windy weather with rain at intervals, potentially disrupting coastal activities and road traffic.
  • The Eastern Cape will see a foggy morning, with winds tending to pick up toward afternoon—but there should be no widely-scattered rain.
  • KwaZulu-Natal will see clear skies on Saturday, but those in the south should be getting ready for showers by Sunday.
  • Keep up with your local weather updates and alerts from SAWS so that you remain safe and ahead of the curve on the changing conditions.
