There are some interesting striker prospects on the market, and Chiefs have a plan to strengthen their offensive personnel. Coach Nabi revealed that the club’s target for a major acquisition to shore up their forward line before the new season is Mamelodi Sundowns’ Etiosa Ighodaro. The team has other players on their shortlist should the main option fail.
Why Another Striker at This Time
Recently, with the signing of Portuguese forward Flávio Silva, the Chiefs seem eager to add further depth and firepower in front. Last season, finishing outside the top eight emphasized the clear need for more goals. Another striker would boost competition up front and offer more options for the team in trailed situations.
Ighodaro: First Choice, But Difficulties
Ighodaro is a well-known name in the PSL, having proven his mettle through various loan spells at other clubs. But the difficulty lies in administrative rather than sporting matters. “While he is a worthwhile prospect, the transfer really depends on these issues being resolved quickly,” admitted Coach Nabi. Meanwhile, the Chiefs keep their Plan B options warm.
Uncertainty Means Being Flexible
Nabi stressed the determination of the team to be flexible. “Great if Ighodaro joins. If he doesn’t, we have a couple of other strikers in hand,” he remarked. Alternate stand-ins are still being kept under consideration as the last thing the club wants is being short on strikers upfront.
Fresh Look into Upcoming Challenges
With the transfer window still open, Chiefs want to begin the 2025/26 Betway Premiership with a completely reinforced squad. They start their campaign away to Stellenbosch FC, so it will be critical to get signings done ahead of kickoffs.
