The Chiefs of Kaizer have added another dimension to their attack with the signing of Portuguese striker Flávio Silva, and yet, that is not where they will stop. Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi stated that the club is looking into the hiring of a second striker to give the much-needed finishing touches at the front. One possibility on the shortlist is Etiosa Ighodaro of Mamelodi Sundowns, although there are some administrative hurdles to overcome. Should all else fail, Chiefs has the backup lined up.
Swift Move for a Versatile Winger
Those were just stories from the transfer window: the Chiefs have also secured the services of Asanele Velebayi, a versatile winger, signing from Cape Town Spurs. The 22-year-old talent arrived amid some hitches pertaining to his contract but has since signed on the dotted line and embraces the shirt with number 17 on his back. The welcoming of the winger by Kaizer Motaung Jr. points towards high hopes for the winger’s potential impact.
Fixing the Goal Scoring Gap
The underwhelming placement outside the top eight last term was loud and clear about having to enhance the attack. Silva provides a new threat, but Chiefs also want some cover. The presence of a second striking lead is hence crucial for the team to be able to maintain goal-scoring power throughout a grueling calendar.
Ighodaro: Something of a Gamble But Worth the Pursuit
Ighodaro is a proven PSL talent, one who would greatly enhance Chiefs’ attacking options. In light of the shuffle for transfer terms and some paperwork matters, his signature is not yet guaranteed. Nabi’s nullity clause, “If he joins us, great. If not…”, reflects willingness to shift when necessary.
A Well-Rounded Strategy in Progress
By searching for the striking partner and wing reinforcement, Chiefs are actually putting together a balanced and potent squad. A mixture of Silva up front, the versatility of Velebayi at the wings, and a possible backup from the Ighodaro camp shows considered squad planning well suited in taking up future assignments in competitions.
