Kaizer Chiefs Warned By Analyst: Why Early Wins Don’t Guarantee Success

The Kaizer Chiefs supporters had their bask in glory following a pair of consecutive Betway premiership wins: a 2-0 away win against Stellenbosch FC, and another tough 1-0 victory over Polokwane City. Yet Bongani Khumalo, a former captain of Bafana Bafana, has advised both the players and their supporters on ExtraTime on SuperSport TV that they need to show some restraint and keep their feet on the ground, for a good start does not always translate to good results.

Fragile structures, long season ahead

While he did acknowledge that he saw some improvement, Khumalo warned that his feeling was that the team structure was still very much fragile, his observation in particular referring to the Stellenbosch game where somehow in his feeling they really did not look the part even with the win. Calmness, realism, and improvement will have to be theirs through this rather long season.

Uneven Performances: A Tale of Two Half-Times

With the match against Polokwane City in full swing, Chiefs were confused in the first half before trekking through the woods in the second. For Khumalo, inconsistency is the mother of stability. There are moments where the team looks cohesive. After that, another opportunity for consistency must occur if the team is to move past promising results.

Richard Bay went to FNB Stadium to face Chiefs after suffering one loss and another. Khumalo identified next week’s fixture to be one that should be carried out with the utmost focus and professionalism, not to be buried in the wake of recent good fortunes. The point was to stay focused on each match rather than being influenced by the early momentum.
