Submitting your documents correctly is among the vital steps when it comes to looking for financial assistance from NSFAS. A missing or unclear document will delay or even outright cancel an application, hence an applicant must know and follow the process without fail.
1. Log in to Your myNSFAS Account
Login into your myNSFAS portal using the South African ID number as the username. You will have to register if you do not have an account yet; use a working email address and cellphone number to do so. Enter the portal, and proceed to Document Upload to view what documents are needed.
2. Gather All Required Documents
The documents to be submitted depend on your personal circumstance. Common documents include:
- Your South African ID or birth certificate
- ID of parent(s), guardian, or spouse, if any
- Proof of income for the applicant or any of the household members (except if you are receiving SASSA grants)
- Additional forms for specified cases:
- Disability Annexure Form, for applicants in the disability category
- Declaration Forms for Vulnerable and Orphaned Children
- Legal Papers for Guardianship or Sworn Guardianship, when under guardianship
3. Uploading of Supporting Documents
It is therefore appropriate, once all documents are complete, to do the following:
- Now access the Document Upload interface via your portal.
- Select, upload, and categorize the documents one by one.
- Check to confirm whether the uploaded documents are correct and clear.
- Press the Submit button and wait to receive an acknowledgement on the screen.
4. Track Deadlines
Generally, when NSFAS requests for further documents from you, the turnaround time to upload these documents is 30 days. This deadline should be treated with urgency and careful attention because if not met, it may lead to rejection of your application.
5. Special Instructions to SASSA Beneficiaries
If you are still in receipt of a SASSA grant, proof of income is usually not necessary. Check to see if this has been recorded properly in your application so that you are not requested for unnecessary documentation.
6. Tracking Your Application Status
After submitting your documents, it is important to regularly log in to your myNSFAS account to see status updates. You might have to submit further supporting documents or clarifications before the assessment process can be finalized.
