SASSA Grant Payment Alert 2025 : The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) had to effect an important change in August 2025 grants that would include mandatory biometric verification in various grant categories. Thus, all beneficiaries qualifying in the Older Persons Grant receiving R2,315, Child Support Grant receiving R560, and Foster Child Grant receiving R1,250 will have to undergo verification methods before accessing their funds.
Why Biometric Verification?
SASSA explains the purpose of this initiative: tighten the security features and guard against fraudulent claims that could have cost millions in taxpayers’ money. Grants should thus be paid after biometric verification through fingerprint or facial recognition technologies to the legitimate recipients. “This new system is about safeguarding our beneficiaries and the integrity of the grants system,” said SASSA spokesperson Lumka Oliphant. “It will also make it much harder for scammers and impostors to commit fraud.”
Who Is Affected?
All the grants mentioned below should authorize compliance from August 2025:
- Older Persons Grant – R2,315
- Child Support Grant – R560
- Foster Child Grant – R1,250
The R350 SRD Grant and any other grants may be added to the biometric requirements toward the end of this year, depending on how successful the system apportions itself.
How The Verification Works
These are the places beneficiaries need to visit to complete verification: an approved SASSA office, a Postbank branch, or a mobile biometric unit. The verification process includes
- Presenting the ID document.
- Scanning fingerprints and/or facial image.
- Confirming details in a SASSA database.
Once you have been verified, you will receive payment as per standard procedure into your bank account, Postbank card, or via cash collection.
What Happens If You Don’t Verify?
Failure to complete biometric verification before the payment date may lead to delays or temporary suspension of the Grant. Beneficiaries are advised by SASSA to act in time, so as not to fall prey to extensive queues and last-minute issues.
Public Reaction
While many South Africans view it as a good thing for security, some beneficiaries in the rural areas are concerned about the pinpointing of verification points. SASSA has assured all-time deployment of mobile units to the remote areas so that no one gets left behind.
