SASSA Grant Boost 2025 : Grant beneficiaries in South Africa have reason to celebrate. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) confirmed that it would increase the monthly gratuity in 2025, providing some relief to the old-aged, minors, and persons with disabilities.
The government is therefore resolute in cushioning vulnerable groups from rising prices for food, transport, and other living expenses.
New Payment Amounts For 2025
Effective from 1 October 2025, the following increases in grant payment shall take effect:
- An increment of R100 will be implemented in the Older Person’s Grant, with the new maximum grant amount of R2,290 for persons aged 60-74 and R2,310 for persons over 75.
- Child Support Grant increased by R30 to R540 per month per child.
- Disability Grant increased by R100 and now stands at R2,290 per month.
Care Dependency, Foster Care, and War Veterans’ grants will also be increased accordingly.
Why The Increase Matters
Once these increases cover the inflationary trend on daily incomes, one must therefore be able to purchase essentials such as groceries, electricity, and medicines. At least for some pensioners and the disabled, even these measly amounts might determine whether they miss meals or can afford to eat well enough.
Grant-receiving families will find relief in these increases, particularly for expenses related to school, such as uniforms and stationery.
When Will The New Amounts Be Paid?
From the payment cycle that will start in October 2025, adjustments will be paid. As is usual with all SASSA payments:
- Older Person’s Grants are first and are usually paid within the 3rd and 4th day of the month.
- Disability Grants are the next to be paid.
- All other grants, including Child Support Grants, are paid last.
Beneficiaries whose monies are paid through SASSA Gold Cards, bank transfers, or through retail outlets such as Shoprite and Pick n Pay would receive automatic adjustments to the increased amounts.
What Beneficiaries Should Do
To keep the disbursement of new grants from being delayed:
- Update your banking details with SASSA.
- Have your contact details always updated so SASSA can contact you.
- Beware of the scams. SASSA will never ask for your PIN and telephonic banking passwords.
