SASSA Old Age Grant 2025: A reason for smiles from the senior citizens of South Africa this month; the September 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grant will be released on Tuesday, 2 September 2025. After months of irregular schedules, the grant is back on tracks again, bringing much-needed stability to the recipients.
Back To Routine
It certainly was a tough few months for pensioners that depend on grant monies for their day-to-day subsistence. They now have something to smile about since payment dates are back to normal, helping households in planning and budgeting without being kept in limbo of extended waiting periods.
What To Expect In The Coming Months
On the 2nd September, Old-Age Grants will be paid, with the new payment system now including a fourth monthly payment date: on the first Friday of every month until the end of 2025. This additional time slot intends to alleviate potential delays due to extra verification processes, thus allowing for smoother transactions in favor of the beneficiaries.
In any case, an increase in the grants is anticipated in October, although not confirmed yet. If this were to happen, it would follow the normal procedure of reviewing the payments against the inflation rates and the rising cost of living.
Higher Income And Asset Limits
Another joy for pensioners is the relaxation of the income and asset test thresholds for eligibility.
- Single applicants can earn up to R107,800 per annum, and their assets can amount to a value of R1,524,600.
- In the case of married couples, the allowable combined income is R215,760, and assets are valued at R3,049,200.
Put differently, such changes mean that a greater number of older South Africans will now be eligible for assistance, offering relief to those who previously were just above the old threshold.
