SASSA SRD Grant Change 2025 : The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued new guidelines concerning the application process for the SRD grant for 2025. The changes have been introduced to make faster payment of the R370 per month easier for deserving citizens. New SRD Grant Application Procedures
Starting August 2025, SASSA will enforce a simplified SRD grant application system with view to shortening its approval times while simultaneously enhancing its security. Applicants must now pass identity verification based on biometric authentication-the one being introduced could be fingerprint and facial recognition. The SRDG still targets South Africans who are jobless and do not receive any other social grant, besides those earning less than R624 per month. Applicants must be between 18 and 59 years, hold a valid South African ID or passport, and be able to produce a proof of residence.
SASSA has also implemented stricter income verification, this time checking bank account details for those applying in an ongoing manner, to ascertain continued eligibility. If an applicant cannot meet these new criteria, their application to receive the grant may be declined, or they may be granted but the grant suspended.
The Process Of Applying For The SRD
Applicants can still apply online through the SASSA SRD grant portal or using the SASSA mobile app. New applicants need to:

- Upload a certified copy of their ID.
- Provide proof of address.
- Perform biometric verification, either online or in person at SASSA office.
Existing beneficiaries of the SRD grant do not need to submit another application but should make sure that their contact and bank details are up to date so as not to interrupt their payments.
When To Expect Your R370 Payment
Eligible beneficiaries will continue getting their monthly income of R370 deposited directly into their bank accounts or will be allowed to collect the payment from retailers. Payment dates for September 2025 should be expected to be announced later in the month, so the SASSA advises the beneficiaries to keep an eye on official channels for announcements.
